Suppose more than one student got the same marks. So not all those with the same marks may have the same rank. Therefore, The NTA adopted the tie-breaking policy.

Many factors are included in this rule, and the authority looks at the series-wise factors one after the other.

Given below are the factors in descending order. in case two students have the same marks, NTA gives the first rank to those students who have.

  • Marks in biology – Candidates securing higher marks/percentage marks in Biology

If the tie persists, a better rank goes.

  • Marks in chemistry – Candidates securing higher marks/percentage marks in Chemistry. 

If the tie persists, then the next tiebreaker is. 

  • Marks in Physics – Candidates securing higher marks/percentage marks in Physics

  If the tie still remains, followed by 

  • Incorrect answers in all subjects: Candidates with a lesser ratio of the number of wrong answers and correct answers attempted in all subjects.
  • Incorrect answers in biology – Candidates with a lesser ratio of number of wrong answers and correct answers in Biology
  • Incorrect answers in chemistry – Candidates with a lesser ratio of number of wrong answers and correct answers in Chemistry
  • Incorrect answers in Physics – Candidates with a lesser ratio of number of wrong answers and correct answers in Physics
  • Age of candidates – candidates older in age
  • Application numbers of candidates – Application numbers in ascending order
